October 2018 News and Updates

The Ondulando Club News

Construction Update

We made steady progress to rebuild the clubhouse and repair the property since our last general meeting in July. We completed soils studies and property surveys - critical information necessary to refine the clubhouse design, and complete the city plan approval process. Preliminary design graphics are shown [here] . We are very excited about the improvements being incorporated into our new clubhouse design, including a club room that will be more open and usable every day, and an improved guest entrance and vehicle passenger drop off area.

Currently, a mechanical engineer is designing and calculating the building structures and foundations in order to calculate building costs and prepare constuction permits. We have been "Pre Approved" for a loan for the additional construction costs not covered by our insurance. Come to the annual meeting and we'll take you through the numbers.

Since we are adding a second story to the clubhouse, we are meeting with adjacent property owners in accordance with the Thomas Fire Rebuild Overlay Ordinance No. 2018-010 to gain their approvals to add the second story.

Temporary Reopening - Soon!

We still plan to open the pool temporarily while we rebuild the clubhouse. We have approvals from the county and city, and are starting construction. We are also repairing the tennis court fences and replacing the burned retaining wall to keep soil off the courts. Our best estimate is that we will reopen late this fall or in winter and will be open during limited daylight hours. The main pool will be heated, and the tennis courts, bocce court, and barbeque area will be open. We will provide more details during the Nov annual meeting and via newsletter as we get closer to opening.

Dues

During our July general meeting, the membership voted to reinstate dues for all members at $75.00 per quarter. This amount was selected to cover our current operating expenses. Every penny we collect is helping us afford to open temporarily and to build the new clubhouse we all want. The membership also agreed to consider and vote on offering an incentive to sustaining members when we reopen, as a sign of gratitude for helping us through this difficult time. None of us enjoys paying dues for a pool we cannot currently enjoy, but as members we also understand the responsibility we share to rebuild the club we love, and as you’ve seen, it will be even better than it was before. We are pleased to report very few members have canceled their memberships, a testament to your committment - THANK YOU!
